Road Trip Day #4: Second night in Ag. Nik

After Spinalonga we had some lunch at a taverna in Plaka, then went back to our hotel in Agios Nikolaos. Claire had discovered there was a sun-deck on the roof of the hotel, and so we dozed and sunbathed until it was cocktail o'clock.

We went to a cute little cafe that was a mix of a book shop, internet cafe, and CD shop. It had a tiny balcony which overlooked the lake, and so enjoyed a drink there.

Then we moved on to the Migomis cafe. This has a commanding view over the lake, and also an excrutiatingly bad "Legends of Heavy Rock Volume IX" CD which meant we had Iron Maiden and Saxon accompanying what we had hoped would be a romantic twilight drink.

For dinner we went to an excellent Taverna called Sarri's which is tucked into one of the sidestreets of Agios Nikolaos - Kyprou, just off of Plateia Venizelou. Very much a family affair, we sat out under a makeshift terrace by the side of the road, and were served by the owner's young son who could only have been 13 or 14 at most. The food was excellent, and it was the nicest atmosphere of any restaurant we have been in on our road trip so far.

We had good company as well, first in the shape of a beautiful chocolate-coloured type of setter who nuzzled up to us to get his share of the food, and then in a German couple sitting next to us. We got chatting, and it turned out they could knock our travels into a cocked hat - they were coming near the end of a four year voyage sailing around the world together!
