Crete road-trip ahoy!

20070423_roadtrip So, we have begun to plan our exploration of the island at last.

Our original plan when we got to Crete last year was to hire a car and tour the island before deciding where to settle. However, because we had travelled for a bit longer than expected, we ended up heading straight to Chania, which had always been our most likely destination, to look for somewhere to live.

We did get to see a bit of the island last year, with trips to Rethymo and Iraklio, as well as venturing inland to Vryses and Αργρουπλοη / Aryroupolis / Argyroupolis / Argiroupolis, but there is an awful lot that we have yet to explore.

So, our plan is to hire a car for ten days or so during May, and to tour the Eastern half of the island. We are currently at the stage of putting little post-it notes on our maps as we decide where we are going and what we want to see.

Very exciting :-)
