Scribbling over Thatcher - some habits die hard

Thatcher The other day Claire and I started doing a giant crossword in one of her puzzle-books. Almost without thinking about it I started defacing the picture of Maggie Thatcher in the middle in the grid, adding horns and fangs.

I say almost absent-mindedly, as when I was younger it was pretty common to additionally give her a small moustache under the nose and scrawl s_______ symbols around the picture. Of course, I had to think about it now as I'm Austria, and I'm not entirely sure, but I suspect, that doing that would be pretty much against the spirit, if not the letter, of the law.

And why was she in the puzzle-book alongside a picture of Christina Aguilera? Well, apparently, as we found out by solving the crossword, they share a fear of the dark. Perhaps that goes some way to why Thatcher was so determined to destroy the UK's mining industry in the mid 80s - if there were no mines left, she'd never have to go underground in the dark to visit one.
