A rocket in Athens, and French sailors running riot in Chania

ChaniacathedralIt was funny seeing Athens briefly in the news yesterday, following the rocket grenade attack on the U.S. Embassy there. It seemed that pretty much as soon as the media realised that nobody was hurt and that it couldn't be linked to Iraq or Iran, and seemed just another expression of Greek anti-Americanism, they all moved on.

Low scale terrorism like this is still fairly common on the Greek mainland - only the day before a group set off a series of devices attacking banks in Athens.

Still, it wasn't the biggest news event of the day for us Cretan exiles. According to the Daily Frappe, there was outrage in Chania today when three French sailors confessed to taking down the Greek flag that flies in front of Chania's cathedral!
