Astonishing robbery in Kalyves

Kalyves The talk of Crete this week has been a daring bank raid in the village of Kalyves, about 20km outside of Chania, near where Claire used to work.

A gang blockaded the main street using a couple of lorries, and then used a bulldozer to rip open the front of the bank. They made off with the bank's safe, but were unable to dislodge the ATM machine. In the end police believe they got away with €200,000.

The thing is, police believe the gang consisted of eight members. That seems like a lot of risk and effort to net just over £17,000 each.
