To rent - ΕΝΟΙΚΙΑΖΕΤΑΙ

Enoikiazetai It is no wonder we struggled to find places to rent when we first got to Crete. We are rather used to the UK and intrusive estate agents sign's screaming from the rooftops that a place is "To Let"

It is rather more subtle over here. These one word notices in yellow and red are attached to trees and lampposts nearby a property that is for rent. The only information they usually carry on them is the word "for rent" - Ενοικιαζεται - and a phone number. You need to phone up even to ascertain the address of the property you are discussing.

Now that we understand this, naturally, we see them everywhere!
