Greek Cup Final delayed
The F.A. in England get a lot of stick for not being very decisive - would the cup final be at Wembley at not? Who was going to replace Sven? All these things seem to drag on for months. Not so in Greece where decisions can get made very swiftly - although I think I kind of prefer the well-mannered bumbling back home.
Today should have been the Greek Cup Final between Olympiakos and AEK Athens. My money is on AEK, as Olympiakos have been faltering since getting the championship wrapped up here a coupe of weeks back. I'll probably support AEK anyway, since Olympiakos have won the title 11 times out the last 12 seasons over here, and seem to be the kind of team you either support or detest.
However, I say "should have been" the cup final, as it seems that as late as last week the Greek FA decided to move it from today to Wednesday 10th. The reason? Not enough police. There is a big demonstration planned in Athens today, so there weren't enough police available for the game...which is in Iraklion, in Crete. Never mind the fans who had already booked their ferry tickets and accommodation to get to the game. Can you imagine the outcry in the UK if the week before the F.A. Cup Final in Cardiff it was moved to the following Wednesday because of a demonstration in London?
