The new economics

"So how much is our rent in pounds" asked Claire as we walked down the hill from our new house.

"Erm, five hundred times zero-point-six-nine, well, say seventy pounds per hundred euro, seven times five is thirty-five, erm, about £350 per month. Which is almost exactly half of what we used to pay in Walthamstow. So I guess that means we only have to earn half as much money as we did before" I replied.

"Well", observed Claire wryly, "we are certainly doing well with that target."
