Venus and, erm, Saturn, are alright tonight

Sitting in the stand of the sports arena
Waiting for the show to begin
Red lights, green lights, strawberry wine,
A good friend of mine, follows the stars,
Venus and Mars Saturn
Are alright tonight.

We've lugged my star chart all over Europe in the last 18 months, but it must be said it isn't of great use anymore in the way it is intended.  You are supposed to move the wheel thingy round to point North at a specified hour and miraculously it reveals the stars you should see in the sky.

However, it was designed to be used in the UK, and what with the time difference and the difference in latitude and longitude, now I just look for the plough in the sky, and wiggle the map around until it sort of matches.

It also has a way of plotting the trajectory of the planets through the heavens. We've established that the bright star setting over the hill in front of us each night is Venus, but suddenly it has been joined by a second star that doesn't appear to be on the map.

A forage around the back of the star chart reveals that it is most probably Saturn, which should be just about right where Venus is too this month.

So, "Venus and Mars Saturn are alright tonight" it is.
