The great Salzburg statue cover-up

Encasedstatue One odd thing we've noticed around Salzburg as winter approaches is that they have covered up most of the statues in town. Some have been boarded up entirely, and some have been put into see-through pyramid structures. We assume it is to protect them from the snow when it comes, but curiously the town's most important statue, that of Mozart on Mozartplatz, remains exposed to the elements.
