Stomping along the beach

"Northerns. Look at the Northerns. Their brains are unhinged by the sun"

I've cut quite a figure dashing along the beach commuting to and from work over the last few weeks.

Very British looking, I expect, as I pass hordes of sun-worshippers wearing my ill-fitting jeans and long-sleeved t-shirts lest I should accidentally get a proper tan.

I've got a new set of half-hour long playlists on my iPod tailored to the walk - Eliott Smith, Stereolab, The Dandy Warhols, Depeche Mode. These help me pace myself since I know almost to the footstep where I should be along the route when each song starts in order to get it done in thirty minutes.

The other day though I really had the whole sulky British thing down to a tee - stomping along scowling, listening to a selection of classic Peel Session tracks from The Fall.

John Peel would have been so proud.

"You think your haircut is distinguished, but its a blot on the English landscape"
